Massing Open-Air Museum
The Schusteröderhof
Since being constructed in Massing in 1969, it has been the epitome of a four-sided farmstead in Lower Bavaria
It is a testament to the pride of farmers in the Rott Valley. The Schusteröderhof is unique, with the façade of its byre-dwelling facing the farmyard and a painted, double-winged door. But this farmstead is a reconstruction, and its buildings stem from several administrative districts. But its main building – a bare wood block construction – is one of the few preserved storeyed houses in the Rott Valley.
The configuration with the most beautiful objects of rural life, the double balcony with the lathed balusters and the carpentry painting are a monument to the founding of the museum 50 years ago.
The stable and items in the chambers feature exhibits with regard to topics such as country wedding, Rott Valley storeyed house and rural stockpiling.
The barn is enlarged to accommodate a museum ticket office, shops and special exhibitions. Slightly detached from the farmstead is a bakehouse in which farmhouse bread is baked every week according to an old recipe.
