  • This is how you come to Finsterau in the Bavarian Forest
    
    By car:
    From the direction of Passau via the B 12 federal road to Freyung; at the roundabout, continue in the direction of Grafenau on the B 533 federal road. At the junction after 500 metres, branch off towards Mauth, and continue 14 km via the St 2127 state road to Finsterau.
    
    
    By public transport:
    From the direction of Passau, take the Ostbayernbus (RBO) 6130 bus (Passau – Hutthurm – Freyung – Finsterau) to Finsterau / Ortsmitte [village centre]; from here it is about 12 minutes on the footpath to the open-air museum.
    
    Alternative: travel to Freyung with the RBO 6110 bus (Passau – Waldkirchen – Freyung), or take the Ilztalbahn railway (Passau – Waldkirchen – Freyung; the train runs from May to October; only on weekends and public holidays; bicycles can be taken along; from Röhrnbach: tariff zone of the Bayerwald [Bavarian Forest] ticket). From Freyung, continue with the RBO 6177 bus to the National Park Centre in Neuschönau; travel further with Igelbus 6115 bus to Finsterau / open-air museum stop (from 15 May to 31 October), or take the Winterigelbus 6204 bus to Finsterau / Ortsmitte [village centre] (from 25 December to 14 May).

    The open-air museum is located directly along the Nationalpark-Bycicle Route from Haidmühle to Bayerisch Eisenstein.
