The Massing and Finsterau Open-Air Museums are sponsored by a municipal joint authority, to which, in addition to the Region of Lower Bavaria, the country districts of Rottal-Inn and Freyung-Grafenau and the market towns of Massing and Mauth belong.
The museums are run by scholars with specialist knowledge. Their task is to illustrate how the farming population in Lower Bavaria used, in earlier periods, to live, make their linving and build their dwellings.
